…
The event originated in the ’70s when Bob & May Arbuckle (of Arbuckle Lane off of Devil Lake Road) started the tradition of greeting Canada Day on the lake.
Cheers, music, the Red & White (and even blue -can’t forget our southern neighbours) greeted residents on the land and lake.
Many different gaily decorated boats joined the parade.
The parade encompassed the whole lake and took a few hours… no one was missed!
The tradition lasted a few years until Bob’s boat didn’t make it any more.
The tradition was resurrected in 2017 in Bob’s memory and Canada Day.
We now have a shortened version of the original tour which lasts about 45 minutes.
The parade starts at McCarthy Bay (near where the old Michael’s cottages were) and hugs the shoreline around Buce Bay,…
This year we hoped to could extend it a bit and add more cheer to the shoreline down Shipton, etc… and go for about 60 minutes.
